As I mentioned in my first welcome blog, I have been struggling with adult acne for the past two years. It has been very tough to deal with acne, not only because of the physical damage it has caused to my skin, but also because of the mental stress that comes with having bad skin, especially since my breakouts first began just a year before my wedding, and has continued to be a problem since then.
I have tried all sorts of remedies from antibiotics and topical creams to Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture. Without going through everything I have tried, I wanted to focus on sharing what works for me.
A little about my skin
Skin type: sensitive, acne-prone
Skin tone: NC20 - 25, cool
Acne issues: cystic bumps on cheeks, whiteheads and small bumps on forehead
Prescribed medication:
Spironolactone
Spironolactone is really what has helped treat my cystic acne. I started to see improvement to my skin after one week of taking the medication. Although I still have occasional cystic acne, it is much more manageable than what I used to have. (disclaimer: this is based on my personal experience only. I am by no means capable of providing medical advice. Please consult your dermatologist to find the right treatments for you.)
Cleanser:
Jan Marini Bioglycolic Facial Cleanser
I have been using this cleanser for about two weeks now, and I am so happy that I have discovered it from reading reviews on Amazon! This cleanser contains glycolic acid, which has shown positive results in reducing acne inflammation and diminishing acne scars. I have a lot of hyperpigmentation on my cheeks, and have seen the discoloration fading gradually since I started using this cleanser. When using the cleanser, I feel a tingling sensation due to the glycolic acid, so I definitely try to be careful when applying it to my face, such as avoiding the eye area and not leaving it on my skin for too long.

Foundation:
Jane Iredale PurePressed Base Pressed Mineral Powder
The Jane Iredale mineral powder has a nice texture, and does not break me out. The downside for me is that I haven't been able to find the perfect shade for my skin tone. I am currently using "warm sienna" and I find it a little too pale for me. If you are able to find a shade that matches your skin tone, this mineral foundation can be a good choice for you! One more note, I have used Bare Minerals before, and I prefer Jane Iredale's pressed powder.
